some universities have indeed done assigments on second life. Architecture is a great example because people can build things on there. Also economic students have created experimental worlds using alternative economies.
perhaps there needs to be an IT literacy standard for lecturers?
or we could experiment and see what works and what doesn't....
but maybe this is the way students learn now so that would make it for academic purposes.

do they currently have original thought ("we are all individuals...")?
If creative commons licensing becomes more and more prevalent, will this eridicate original thought? Will our students become a "nation of copiers"?
