Libraries of the Future

What does the academic library of the future look like?

need more money for more bandwidth - Web 2.0 sites use so much and a lot of internet traffic is not being used for 'academic' purposes/

but maybe this is the way students learn now so that would make it for academic purposes.

Some of our reader workstations are arranged so that the screens are visible to anyone walking by, others face a wall with no passing traffic. I walked by one that had frozen with just the top half of a web page visible. The reader looked quite panic stricken - small wonder as, displayed for all to see, were the words "ADULT SERVICES".

I really wanted to point out to him that the sensible thing would have been to use one of the workstations facing the wall......

Many librarians are scared that what happens in the insitution is increasingly passing the library by - people are accessing resources without having to go to the library. They're looking anxiously for ways to insert themselves into the research process.

Our hardware needs to be up to date if we need to incorporate this.
